The Zodiac

The Greeks divided the heavens into 12 segments, through which the Sun and planets were seen to move against the background of stars. These segments had the main stars in them linked up, and were given them human and animal identities - the crab, scorpion, ram, lion, archer, water carrier, and so on.
In the diagram below (click to enlarge), the zodiac is marked as a yellow dotted line. I have also highlighted the 12 zodiacal constellations. Note, however, one in pink: Ophiuchus. Few have heard of it, but it is the 13th constellation of the zodiac.
